Tips for a Green Wedding
September 25th, 2008 by searcher
As people become more aware of the environment and the harm we’ve done it, not to mention as the price of harmful things like gasoline skyrockets, the green movement is growing — like a weed, except this one is a good weed! If you’re interested in having a green wedding, here are some ideas for environmentally friendly wedded bliss.
- Get a wedding website. These are really popular because a lot of people enjoy keeping blogs and creating websites. Also, though, you can use the website to relay information such as wedding announcements, accommodations for out-of-towners, reception information, RSVP, etc. People still like getting paper invitations in the mail but at least this way you can count on how much paper you have to put in the envelope, as all of those things usually require a separate card.
- Try DIY wedding invitations. When you make your wedding invitations yourself, you ensure that they weren’t made in a sweatshop overseas. Maybe you can even incorporate recycled materials into your invitation — or use all recycled paper. A lot of contemporary wedding invitations use collage-like designs. It’s fun to be creative about it and try to find ways to save the environment and still have your invitations, too!
- Buy secondhand — and encourage your guests to, as well! I had a 1920s-themed wedding, so everyone came in vintage costumes. Some were rented, some were bought at secondhand stores, but I can guarantee that all of them were much more fun to put together than a brand-new, store-bought outfit, anyway!
Just because you’re getting married doesn’t mean you have to forget about being environmentally friendly. What other ways can you think of to make your wedding green?
