Using Software to Manage Organizations

October 28th, 2009 by andik

One of the greatest blessings that computers have provided for us is an easier way to stay organized.  I know that there are some people out there that would never consider parting with their pen and paper organizational system, but for us, changing to a software based system was the right way to go.  It not only provided greater flexibility, but it was also nice enough to remind us of upcoming dates – something that a pen and paper can’t do.

So it should come as no surprise that I will tell you that our Scout Troop is managed by some Scout software that we have purchased.  We have noticed that this small change has really helped us to stay in touch with the parents and keep them informed of our activities.  In fact, there have been a number of parents that have helped to bring in more kids thanks to the fact that we have things planned out and we are always keeping the kids busy.  It has definitely made a big impact on our Scout troop.

We are hoping that the HOA software that our condo association has purchased will make as big of an impact.  Truth be told though, a large percentage of the board is made up of older members, so it may take awhile to warm them up to the idea that a computer will help us to stay organized.

I urge you to take a look to see if there is software to help manage your organization or team as well – it has made all the difference for us.

Atlanta Hotel Technology

July 16th, 2009 by autoPiloting

technologyAtlanta is a city that many business travelers end up in each year. That is because there are many conventions held in this location. It’s a great urban area that offers more low-cost business travel options than a lot of other major cities. This makes it appealing to business travelers from a range of different industries.

All of these business travelers require that their hotels have the most up-to-date technology in them. Some of the technology that is standard to find in Atlanta Georgia Hotels is:

  • Full business centers. This means that you should be able to use a computer (with Internet access) and also have access to a copy machine, fax machine and business phone.
  • Advanced phone systems. The phones in many Atlanta hotels are advanced enough to offer voice conferencing and other features that you might need for business.
  • Wi-Fi. Most travelers want to connect to the Internet from their laptops. Business travelers consider this a must. Most Atlanta hotels will accommodate this need.

Really this isn’t a whole lot to ask for from your hotel. It’s surprising that there are still places that don’t offer these basics. Luckily, Atlanta is not one of those places. You can get what you need here in terms of hotel technology.

Automated Data Capture Technologies

June 13th, 2009 by autoPiloting

dataOne of the things that I am really fascinated by is the increasingly ability of our technology to do things with little or no human involvement. Many people think that this is the stuff of the future but there are actually a lot of automated technologies that we’re already used to which are like this. In fact, there is a whole category of technology, known as Automatic Identification and Data Capture Systems (AIDC) which requires no human input to operate once they have gotten started.

AIDC technology has three parts to it. First it can automatically identify what an object is by some sort of scanning process. Second it can extract information or data from the object without any added information being entered by a human. And third, it can automatically input that information into a computer system to be stored and used by a business or individual in the future.

Sounds unreal doesn’t it? But if you think about it, it’s all around us. AIDC technologies include bar codes, smart cards and the magnetic stripes on your credit cards. Even voice recognition can fall into this category. As technology gets more and more advanced, we’re going to see this become even more common. It’s interesting stuff!

Making sure your premium finance company is legitimate

March 29th, 2009 by andik

As a consumer, one of your chief concerns should always be the legitimacy of the companies that you are dealing with. This should be applied to much more than just life insurance, and you need to understand what it some of the key things to look out for are in the world of life insurance. Premium finance fraud is something that can be really difficult and really challenging for you. This occurs when the forms for your life insurance are falsified and the end result can be pretty ugly.

When this happens, your premium financing for life insurance can end up being pretty useless. It doesn’t matter how nice of a loan you get in order to acquire a great life insurance policy, if things aren’t on the up and up, you will end up having a dispute with the insurance company. When there is misleading going on, the insurance company could take away your coverage altogether, leading to one gigantic mess. How do you avoid this type of scenario? You go with a lending institution that is completely open and transparent in their dealings. You also make sure that you go with an insurance agent that is on the up and up, so that these problems plague others, instead of plaguing you.

Major Performance Enhancement

March 28th, 2009 by pattya

When you have been dealing with dialup for the last three years of your life, high speed internet will seem like heaven. Going from one kilobyte a second to almost a megabyte a second is life changing. There are so many more things I can do now on the Internet. I’m able to watch movies, download music, send big emails, or actually surf web pages without having to make a pot of coffee in between each new page. I was very much appalled by the performance, and having to have a home phone just to be able to get Internet.

I do know that my service also has a couple of satellite internet providers that I could look into if I need to move to another location. So far, I’ve been pretty happy with the service I’ve received, and I can’t see myself changing any time soon. The last couple of times I’ve called into customer support they have been extremely helpful. The first time I called in, it turned out that I had the wrong SMTP setting for my email. The second time I called in, I actually managed to get into Offline mode in Firefox somehow. I hope my next questions will be a little more advanced.
