Things We Think We Can’t Do

September 20th, 2008 by autoPiloting

If we are lucky when we are growing up we are told all of the time that we can do anything that we want to do. Unfortunately, the majority of us stop believing this somewhere along the line. We start putting limitations on ourselves and fail to achieve our real dreams as a result of the fact that we dismiss them and decide not to chase after them at all.

This is an inspirational blog post that just wants to send you a single message: you can still do anything that you want to do!

Let’s say that you’re interested in starting an ebay business but you decide that you’re not going to bother because you don’t even know how to start your own business. Stop those thoughts in their tracks. Other people have learned how to start an ebay business and you can learn to start your own ebay business too!

There are a lot of limitations that are placed on us in life because of things that are beyond our control. However, many of our restrictions are based only on our own fears and hesitations. Stop letting them hold you back and just go for whatever you want to really do!

What is the Best Place for Your Tattoo?

August 22nd, 2008 by SMO

Where should you get a tattoo? Many of the few people who later regret their decision do so because the location of their selected design turns potential employers or business contacts away, sometimes negatively affecting one’s job or future prospects. For this reason, many women elect to get lower back tattoos, which are not visible beneath business suits or dresses, but can be enjoyed and displayed during a beach day while on vacation. The decision to permanently adorn your body is a big decision, as you might not want your dragon tattoos displayed prominently on your face if you work for high end, conservative law firm. Does this mean that you must avoid inked designs all together? Of course not, simply that some forethought as to the location, or part of your body you wish to permanently alter ought to be a part of your decision making process. Remember also that while body art is often permanent, it will likely change as you get older. It may fade or perhaps change shape slightly over the years; it is important to ask yourself, “Will I mind having this showing on my hand if it’s faded and stretched, or would I like to place it somewhere that I can cover it…even in the summer?”

Alternatives To Insurance

July 30th, 2008 by autoPiloting

There are a lot of people out there who should have some sort of insurance (health insurance, auto insurance, disability insurance, etc.) but who fail to get that insurance. They usually think that their risk of actually needing to use the insurance is low and that they’ll figure out some way to deal with situations requiring the insurance if they have to. However, you should know that the alternatives to insurance are usually not as good as just paying for the insurance itself.

For example, let’s consider disability insurance. Here are some of the alternatives you could use if you had a disability and couldn’t work but didn’t have long term disability insurance:

  • Worker’s comp. Let’s say you’re a dentist who gets hurt and can’t work but the injury takes place off the job. Dentist disability insurance would cover you; worker’s comp would not.
  • Savings. How much can you really save up? Is it really enough to pay all of your bills if you can’t work for a long period of time?
  • Relying on help from others. Most people don’t want to move in with family members because they can no longer work.
  • Social security benefits. It’s really hard to actually get these and they don’t cover a whole lot for you.

Basically it’s true that your risk of needing insurance is low. But the alternatives aren’t pleasant so you should suck it up and pay for it anyway!

Interpreting the Meaning Behind Solar Signs

April 30th, 2008 by autoPiloting

It’s funny how you can start to have a conversation with someone and think that you’re both talking about the same thing only to discover that the two of you are having radically different conversations. One example of that happened to me recently when the topic of conversation somehow managed to turn to solar signs.

There were four of us in the car when this conversation occurred and each of us thought we were talking about something different. One friend thought that we were talking about zodiac signs. Another friend thought that we were talking about signs that emanate from the sun as the result of some sort of scientific change in the air. And I thought that we were talking about symbolism associated with the sun in history or literature.

It turned out that the person who had brought it up was talking about safety signs. Apparently solar safety signs are traffic warning signs that are illuminated using lights that are powered by the sun. Who knew?

Of course, most of the time it’s easy to figure out that two (or more) people are talking about strikingly different things. But it’s important to keep in mind that these differences in thought occur on a regular basis. By explaining ourselves more clearly when we speak, we can avoid the confusion that comes along with miscommunication!

Reasons People Get Religious Tattoos

April 25th, 2008 by autoPiloting

If you go check out a tattoo flash set at your local tattoo parlor, you’ll see that there is a diverse array of religious tattoos available. That’s because people of all different types of spiritual backgrounds have a strong interest in obtaining a faith-based tattoo. But what motivates these people to get permanently inked with a symbol of their faith?

Here are some of the common reasons that people get religious tattoos:

  • They’ve survived something difficult. Oftentimes, a person’s faith is the only thing that seems to get them through a tough time and they want to honor their survival with a tattoo.
  • The tattoo has a dual meaning. For example, cross tattoos may represent a person’s religious beliefs as well as their ethnic background.
  • They want to show their faith to others. For some people, spirituality is a significant part of who they are. They want this to be demonstrated to everyone who meets them.

There are many different reasons that compel people to get religious tattoos. In the end, those reasons are very personal and are unique to the individual. If this is something that you’ve been considering, remember that the only person who can decide whether or not it’s right for you is you.
