Most of us think of college as just school. We go there to get an education. However, at its core, a college is a business. It has to think about its bottom line. The economy has been rough on almost all types of businesses and colleges have been no exception. In order to improve their bottom line, many colleges are starting to make use of direct mailing lists.
Direct mailing lists are commonly used by businesses. They allow the business to target the individuals who are most likely to be interested in buying their services or products. Upon receiving a direct mailing list, a business will send out advertisements or offers to the people on the list. If the list is a good one then a high percentage of the people on the list will then become new customers of the business.
Colleges are using direct mailing lists to recruit students to their campuses. Colleges may be particularly interested in targeting the students that have been least likely to stay enrolled during the recession. For example, low-income students that can’t afford college without financial assistance might be recruited by a college which offers a good financial aid package. The college would get a mailing list to find these students and then send them information about financial aid at the school. In this day and age all businesses need to be smart about their marketing; that includes colleges!

Teaching children is one of my passions, and I have been a teacher for nearly twenty years. There have been some great times over the last two decades, and I would like to think that I have made a difference in my students’ lives.
Recently, our school board has decided to change its’ mandate to include teaching children about energy conservation. The goal behind this move is to help give kids an appreciation for the environment and empower them to make a difference.
We have been covering many topics in this area including how to conserve water, recycle paper and even how changing all of our light bulbs in our house to fluorescent light bulbs can have a positive impact on the world.
My grade six class decided that they were going to try to convince the school to switch the outdoor lighting to high pressure sodium to make it so the school was taking an environmentally friendly stance. They prepared a presentation and presented it to the school board, and thankfully that change has been implemented.
It is just nice to see kids responding well to the fact that they need to do their part to help take care of the world. It just puts a smile on my face to know that I can see the difference that we can make if we work together.

One of the gifts that I have been blessed with is the gift of teaching. It seems that no matter who the student may be, I am able to explain concepts to pretty much anyone. This has been handy throughout my career as a college professor, and has been very beneficial in the training programs that I now offer in my retirement.
You see, after retiring just four years ago, I found myself with too much free time on my hands. So, I decided that it was time to start my own business, and I decided to expand my hobby of selling stuff online to offering training courses to others who wished to start selling online.
The community response was very positive, and I have even received referrals from other towns. I have helped people sell jewelry online, sell cars, boats and many other things. It has been a great teaching experience as well as a learning experience for me.
I have actually been toying with the idea of writing a book on how to sell gold jewelry, but I might put that off until August when I am at the lake. Whether or not I write the book, I have learned one thing from this whole experience: I am not ready to retire yet.

The online health doctorate programs at many universities offer a variety of different options to the individuals that are looking to gain valuable education from what is offered. Whether it is a doctorate of audiology program or a public health online master’s degree, there are usually classes that run the gamut to include those that have either experience or an interest in the health field. Sometimes business people look to make a move into the health care field, especially because that is a field that people always will use. Allied med personnel look at doctorate programs to further their education in their chosen field. Being able to become even more educated about your field of study in undergrad is a possible for anyone.
Education is so important for everyone, and making the decision to go a university or attend online classes will be a positive thing to do for just about anyone. It can affect your marketability as well as the knowledge you have about your field of study. Making a well educated decision is more important than just a random guess. That is why so many people go back to school to get an advanced degree.

Recently I’ve been studying up on different types of dog breeds. My favorite dogs seem to be ones that originally come from Asia. However, I’ve been trying to learn more about the dogs that come from different parts of Europe. These dogs are more common but there are some interesting breeds within the bunch.
One great breed that originally comes from Europe is the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. This is a tiny but sturdy dog that originally comes from Wales. It’s interesting because of the history behind the breed. It was developed to herd cattle which is fascinating to me because it’s such a small dog. It’s also famous as a breed that was adored by Queen Elizabeth II.
Another interesting European dog breed is the Bernese Mountain Dog. This is a really gorgeous large dog that originally came from Switzerland. It was also used as a breed that herded cattle which is funny since it’s so much larger than the Pembroke Welsh Corgi!
Learning about these different types of dogs has been really interesting. The animals that we take for granted as pets today actually have some really interesting history behind them. I didn’t have any idea about that until I started this research!
