To MBA or not to MBA
October 19th, 2008 by SMO
I have been pondering that question for days now, and can’t seem to find an answer. In these days of Wall Street going bust, and high paying managerial jobs drying up, is it really worth getting an MBA degree? There is a considerable amount of money and time to be invested in the course, and I am not sure if I’ll actually be better off with those three magic letters next to my name.
Higher education, of course, is always an excellent idea, no matter what the kind of economic times we live in. The economy will improve, stocks will rise sooner or later, and when that happens, who do you think firms will be looking for to restructure their organizations, and start making money again? Yep, that’s right! The MBA degree holders!
My parents, of course, think it’s an excellent idea, and will boost my career prospects, and I must admit I am slowly beginning to tilt to their way of thinking. After all, with online MBA programs offered courses from so many of the top universities, it shouldn’t be hard to combine my regular job with an online college degree from an online university. In fact, an online college is my only practical option now, both for its cost and time savings. I am going to sleep on this for a couple of days, and then make a decision.
