Helping Others Sell Online

July 24th, 2009 by andik

One of the gifts that I have been blessed with is the gift of teaching.  It seems that no matter who the student may be, I am able to explain concepts to pretty much anyone.  This has been handy throughout my career as a college professor, and has been very beneficial in the training programs that I now offer in my retirement.

You see, after retiring just four years ago, I found myself with too much free time on my hands.  So, I decided that it was time to start my own business, and I decided to expand my hobby of selling stuff online to offering training courses to others who wished to start selling online.

The community response was very positive, and I have even received referrals from other towns.  I have helped people sell jewelry online, sell cars, boats and many other things.  It has been a great teaching experience as well as a learning experience for me.

I have actually been toying with the idea of writing a book on how to sell gold jewelry, but I might put that off until August when I am at the lake.  Whether or not I write the book, I have learned one thing from this whole experience: I am not ready to retire yet.

Providing Hearing Aids to Church Patrons

July 23rd, 2009 by andik

senior hearing One of the biggest changes that our church congregation has undergone over the last few years is that in general, the average age has increased.  Though that may sound a little too obvious, in reality, it has presented its own set of problems.

We noticed early on that there were complaints about the sound level in the chapel.  Many people said that they could barely hear the preacher and it reminded them of people whispering.  So, we added a new sound system complete with louder speakers, and for a time there were fewer complaints.  But the congregation was only happy for six months or so before the complaints began again.  At this point we new we had a problem.

After some deliberation at a number of board meetings, it was decided that we would look into finding hearing aids so that those people that did have problems hearing would at least have some sort of solution.  Our sister church had some so we thought that we would contact them to see what they suggested.

It took a little more than two months to get everything sorted out, but in the end we are now able to cater to those who can’t hear as well as the rest of us.  In fact, since we purchased the devices, our turnout has increased so everyone is pretty happy.

Atlanta Hotel Technology

July 16th, 2009 by autoPiloting

technologyAtlanta is a city that many business travelers end up in each year. That is because there are many conventions held in this location. It’s a great urban area that offers more low-cost business travel options than a lot of other major cities. This makes it appealing to business travelers from a range of different industries.

All of these business travelers require that their hotels have the most up-to-date technology in them. Some of the technology that is standard to find in Atlanta Georgia Hotels is:

  • Full business centers. This means that you should be able to use a computer (with Internet access) and also have access to a copy machine, fax machine and business phone.
  • Advanced phone systems. The phones in many Atlanta hotels are advanced enough to offer voice conferencing and other features that you might need for business.
  • Wi-Fi. Most travelers want to connect to the Internet from their laptops. Business travelers consider this a must. Most Atlanta hotels will accommodate this need.

Really this isn’t a whole lot to ask for from your hotel. It’s surprising that there are still places that don’t offer these basics. Luckily, Atlanta is not one of those places. You can get what you need here in terms of hotel technology.

Financial Things You Should Know How to Do

July 13th, 2009 by autoPiloting

There are a lot of financial things to deal with when you’re an adult. Here is a checklist of the things that you should know how to do once you’re living on your own:

  • Pay your bills in a timely manner.
  • Track your spending so you know where your money goes.
  • Create a budget and learn to live by it.
  • Manage your debt so that it can eventually be paid off.
  • Properly compare plans for credit cards, loans and other financial transactions so that you choose the best ones.
  • Adjust your spending as needed to reflect changes that occur in your income.
  • Discuss money in a reasonable manner with your spouse, parents and kids.
  • Resolve problems with banks and credit card companies when they come up.
  • Read and understand all of your financial statements.
  • Start a savings account and put a portion of your income in it each month.
  • Make long-term investments in a car, home or financial account.

Of course, these are not always things that you do on your own. You may get help from tax services or from professionals who can assist you if you want to settle credit card debt. However, the basics of these things are things that you should be able to do without too much help once you’re an adult.
